Veve Tycho Brahe (Escape Vessel for Wayland the Smith)

Veve Tycho Brahe (Escape Vessel for Wayland the Smith) was a durational drawing and ritual performance created with Roberto N. Peyre for the Tide of Ghosts: Esotericism Beyond Fact and Fiction conference in Copenhagen on October 25th 2024.

The drawing was made at the extreme and experimental music venue Mayhem, a former garage in an area of Copenhagen famous for metal works. The performance was accompanied a sonic composition by the Copenhagen based sound artist Jean-Louis Huhta.

The design of the veve was based on the sextant created by the Danish alchemist and astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546 – 1601) and the Norse legend of Wayland the Smith who crafted a winged cloak to escape his slavery to the king.

During the performance Roberto and I created a furnace at the centre of the floor drawing that smouldered throughout the evening’s events.

At the end of the evening, when the veve had been destroyed, Roberto and I swept up the ashes.
