This video was shot during the Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in December 2009. During the bumpy car journey that begins at the Oloffson hotel, passes via the Grand Rue (site of the biennale) and eventually arrives at ‘the monumental pig’ on the park close to United Nations Square (between Rue Bon Foi and Rue de La Marine), Reginald Jean Francois tells us stories about the Bwa Kayiman ceremony, secret mirrors in Vodou, black and white magical technologies, pigs in Haiti and the UN war against the armed gangs in 2004. When we arrive at a replica of the Florentine Boar (presumably donated by the Italian government at some point in time) Reggie shows us how, when the UN peacekeeping forces arrived in the country, they ritually defaced the pig as an act of magical warfare against the Chimères, presumably under the seemingly misguided assumption, held by certain Evangelical groups in Haiti, that the effigy was worshiped by Vodouisants.
